Emily Bronte was born in Thornton, Yorkshire, England on July 30, 1818. She was one of six children. She has one brother and four sisters. The family shortly moved to Haworth in April, 1821. Emily’s mother died a few months later of cancer. She died nine months after emily’s sister Anne was born. After the death of their mother,their aunt came to live with them to help their father out. Emily, Charlotte and their two older sisters were sent to the Clergy Daughters' School at Cowan Bridge. This is the school were emily’s two sisters Elizabeth and Maria both became seriously ill at school and returned home, where they died of tuberculosis in 1825. Her father then pulled her and her other sister Charlotte out of school. Emily was only 6 years old when her two older sisters died. Emily Bronte wrote many poems with her two other sisters Anne and Charlotte. They published a few poems in 1846 under male names. Then emily wrote the novel Wuthering Heights in December 1847. The complex novel Wuthering Heights explores two families know as the Earnshaws and the Lintons. The book was published in 1847 a year before she died in 1848. Emily Bronte died of tuberculosis on December 19, 1848, nearly two months after the death of her brother Branwell. Then her sister Anne also fell ill and died of tuberculosis the following May the same diseased that emily died of. The novel Wuthering Heights established her as a major figure in english literature.
